Ascot Veterinary Surgery
Annual health checks can help us diagnose, treat or even prevent problems before they become life-threatening. They're also a great opportunity to ask us about nutrition, behaviour or any other issues. Teeth and gum problems are some of the most common conditions we see in dogs and cats with over 80% of animals over 4 years of age affected to some degree.

Pets can't say how they're feeling - its usually how they look or act that tells you something is wrong. Blood testing goes a step further, showing us the earliest signs of illness, often before your pet even seems to be sick. Our Surgery is fully equipped to take X-Rays (often called Radiographs) of your pets.
Services
Pets, on average, age five to eight times faster than humans. By age two, most pets have already reached adulthood. At age four, many are entering middle age, and beginning around age seven, your pet enters his or her senior years. Because pets age so rapidly, major health changes can occur in a short amount of time.
Vaccinations protect our pets against a number of incurable and often fatal diseases such as Parvovirus and Distemper in dogs and Feline Enteritis and Cat Flu in cats. These viral diseases don't respond well to medications and treatment is difficult, expensive and often unsuccessful.

Puppies and kittens will obtain a certain level of immunity via their mothers milk until the age of 6 weeks or so, but then it rapidly drops off and they become very susceptible to the major diseases affecting the animal population.Just as children receive a series of needles early on in life, so should pets.
With the start of the colder weather, for our older pets, that can mean the start of trouble with arthritis. Arthritis is a common condition in mature dogs with one in five adult dogs estimated to suffer from this disease. Remember it is not in a dog's nature to complain, so often they don't tell us when there is a problem until they are in a considerable amount of discomfort.
Heartworm disease is a mosquito transmitted disease that affects thousands of dogs each year. Heartworm disease in dogs is quite common in most Australian states but the further north you travel the more prevalent the disease becomes. It is usual for dogs not on heartworm preventative treatments to become infected by heartworm during their life span.
Thousands of pets are destroyed each year simply because they lack identification. This is why we recommend microchipping as part of our preventative healthcare campaign for all pets. Microchipping is now compulsory in Queensland and all puppies purchased should already be microchipped by the breeder, however pets can be microchipped at any age.

Always go here, so helpful. My cats wouldn't like it regardless so they don't get a say, but the vets are patient and kind to them and I at least appreciate it.

Scott is wonderful and thorough vet. We were recommended him by a close friend and he's now looking after our new Finnish Lapphund puppy. Worth the drive across town to see him.

We have been going to Ascot Veterinary Surgery since Oscar our rescue dog came into our lives. Oscar also goes there for grooming.
Prior to Oscar, my son found a baby possum in our driveway, which we brought to the surgery. We had a call from animal rescue a few hours later, and we had "visiting rights" to check out Mark the possum was going at animal rescue.
Another time we came across a wandering black lab in New Farm. Whilst most of the local vets were about to close, I brought the dog to Ascot. Through their help and that of Pet ER, we were able to reunite lab with family.
I highly recommend

My poor Westie puppy received the worst half done groom he has ever had. Ive has a westie before and know what it should look like. I showed photos of what I wanted and they argued with me as to what I wanted was a “normal cut” which isn’t what I wanted. He’s patchy has a half balled patchy stomach and looks terrible. They cut his eyes balled, cut… half his eyelashes off. His ears and feet’s weren’t done (needs to be done on Westies). He also is a different dog coming home which hasn’t happened after a groomer before. He’s scared we can&rsquo
