The Sunshine Beach Veterinary Surgery is proudly a family owned and operated business for the past 26 years by Dr. Peter Rickford B.V.Sc (Hons.) We place great stock in being a sole practitioner as this allows us to provide a personal service every time we see you and your loved pet. This is also reassuring for your pet as they will always have the same person seeing them each time.
Peter and his nurses enjoy being a part of your pet's journey from puppy/kitten care right through to geriatric care and everything during the many years in-between. Having wanted to be a vet from an early age and combining study with surfing, Peter is fortunate to love his job and be able to balance it with the beach lifestyle he shares with his wife and 2 sons and a menagerie of pets.

Pets and Overseas Travel
Report
Dr Peter Rickford has also undergone further training in export accreditation enabling him to help prepare your pet for overseas travel. We give you the requirements for the country you are sending them to, which includes information about vaccinations, quarantine, blood testing, carry cage requirements and so on.
Dogs at the Beach
Report
There are a few items we see more than the average vet's share of compliments of the beach. In our part of coastal Queensland, we see mainly brown, red-belly black and tiger snakes. Browns, in particular, live in high numbers in our coastal dunes. So it's a very good idea to keep your dog out of the dunes when off the lead on the beach.
FAQ/ Tips
Report
We have the facility to board cats for bona-fide clients on a short-term basis, particularly for those requiring medication. We recommend at 6 months. Any earlier they are more of an anaesthetic risk. Any later and the females could have their first "season" which significantly increases the risk of mammary tumours later in life.
Testimonials
Report
Many thanks for helping to keep Flash so healthy for the last nine years and for the kind and considerate treatment you provided in his final weeks. I am delighted to write this testimonial as I have been coming to see Peter at the Sunshine Beach Vet Surgery since I was a kid with our family pets. I now have my own young family, including 2 dogs and a cat, and would never consider going anywhere else.
