Services
After a thorough internal fit out of the premises we opened up and limited our practice to the treatment of gum disease, oral surgery and implant dentistry. Dr Colin Priestland had previously served for 20 years in the Royal Navy as a Dental Officer and, having obtained his Masters degree in Periodontotlogy, was accredited as a UK specialist in periodontics under the European Federation of Periodontiology/UK General Dental Council jurisdiction.
At NQ Surgical Dentistry in Townsville we will provide you with a positive experience at every visit. We do this through a combination of the highest levels of personalised care and the most modern equipment, techniques and materials available. Our practice takes a special interest in the areas of periodontal disease, dento-alveolar surgery and dental implant surgery, by providing the following dental treatments.
If a root-filled tooth becomes reinfected or abscessed we may advise Root Canal Surgery (Apicectomy). At NQ Surgical Dentistry, root canal surgery or an apicectomy may be advised If a tooth which has already had the root filled becomes reinfected or abscessed. A form of surgical root canal treatment, apicectomy shortens the root to remove infected tissue and seals the end of the root within the bone.
While bone may be lost at the time of tooth extraction due to the surgical procedure, it may also be lost in the months following tooth removal, a process known as bone resorption. Bone grafts involve the use of a grafting material which may either be patient-derived, animal derived or synthetic. Such materials assist the body in regenerating bone where it has been destroyed.
No dental team is complete without a dental hygienist and at NQ Surgical Dentistry Sharon Everett provides our dental hygiene therapy. Sharon's gentle and caring approach to dental hygiene therapy, coupled with her clear communication make her extremely successful in her patient treatment and management achieving excellent clinical outcomes.

I needed an urgent fix for my front tooth after my implant became loose. There was a lot of work required as there was little bone to implant a new one. Colin and his team were wonderful in managing this process and the detail and care they took showed how professional they were. I'm so glad that I chose them to do this work especially as it was a front tooth.
Would highly recommend them to sort.out any problems.

Thankyou to Sharon and Kylie for your superb treatment and care today. You both made me comfortable and relaxed prior to treatment and I am so happy that you took the time to address my teeth sensitivity, making this experience one that I will not fear with future visits. For that, I am truly grateful. Your knowledge with dental hygiene was clearly abundant and what you taught and educated me with today, will see me start better toothbrushing methods - Thankyou.

As a local dentist I have been referring patients to Colin for many years for surgical procedures and gum therapy. Colin has always displayed an unsurpassed level of professionalism and clinical care – I even let Colin treat me!
I would highly recommend Colin and his team as ‘go to’ professionals when it comes to advanced surgical and periodontal care.

Very unprofessional. Dr Priestland doesn't know or refuses to disclose his own fees. Doesn't know the item number for procedures. When asked about upcoming costs gives excuses like "well I can't tell you that because depends on your health fund". He deligates all his cleaning procedures to a hygeniest, but still charges specialist rates. Reception is disorganised, makes promised to send out information, but it never arrives. Moving forward Dr Priestland struggles to give a clear explanation of any other option than the option he wants to do and at times can seem politician like often avoiding answering
