Frozen Shoulder
Report
Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) occurs when the capsule (consisting of connective tissue that surrounds the shoulder) thickens and contracts. This leads to stiffness and shoulder pain with restricted movement. The capsule is a balloon like structure that surrounds the shoulder (glenohumeral joint).
Recovery after Surgery
Report
If you have a shoulder operation you will almost certainly wake up in a sling. The sling may be needed for anything from 1 to 6 weeks depending on the type of operation you have had. Most patients will need to wear the sling for 6 weeks. The sling is there to remind you not to move your shoulder and to support the weight of the elbow.
Rotator Cuff Tears
Report
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles which go from the scapula (wing bone) to the humeral head (ball of the shoulder bone). The front muscle is the subscapularis, the top muscle is the supraspinatus and the back two muscles combine, the infraspinatus and teres minor. Together these muscles work to keep the glenohumeral joint in place and initiate the movement of the arm above the head.
Rotator Cuff Tear Arthropathy
Report
Shoulder arthritis causes pain and loss of movement in the shoulder. The joint lining cartilage wears out and the bones rub against each other. These days we have the technology to be able to do a shoulder replacement (like we can do hip or knee replacements) to relieve pain and restore function to the shoulder.
