We're a team of highly experienced vets and nurses dedicated to caring for your pet through every life stage. Donald first came to Elwood and Albert Park Vets in 1988, and has been providing warm, compassionate and thorough care to local pets ever since. When not in the clinics, you can find Donald at the theatre, sampling Melbourne's good eats, perusing local book shops or tending his native garden down at Anglesea.
If you can't find him there, he may well be off exploring overseas. Donald is the quintessential generalist - he enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine. His particular areas of interest include internal medicine and solving challenging behavioural problems. Elena used to locum for us when other vets were away or we need extra hands on deck.

Consultations
Report
Did you know that a vet will perform around 200,000 consultation over a professional lifetime? It's not surprising that sometimes we forget that not everyone is familiar with what happens during a consultation. Even if you've brought your well pet in for a vaccination or check up, we'll still go through pretty much the same steps.
Preventive care
Report
We all know that prevention is better than cure, but it's is more than just yearly vaccination. Did you know that we actually practice four levels of prevention - primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary? But not all preventive activities are effective or needed for every pet - prevention need to be tailored for you pet based on individual risks.
Diagnostic imaging
Report
With our high-quality ultrasound machine and well-trained vets we can provide fast and accurate results with minimal patient stress. Ultrasounds do not involve radiation and can be carried out while there is movement, making them very safe and particularly useful for wriggly pets. As our ultrasound machine is portable, we can also perform scans where the patient is.
In-house laboratory
Report
We can take blood at Albert Park and have it analysed within a couple of hours at our Elwood practice. Some tests we can do during a consultation! We can also test for FIV infection in cats and perform blood typing in cats and dogs (for blood transfusions). There are some tests that can only be done at a specialised laboratory.
Surgery
Report
We have a small operating area at Albert Park, but we also have access to the purpose-built theatre at Elwood Vet. This means we can perform a wide range of surgical procedures. All the vets do surgery at Albert Park.
However, Craig (who works at Elwood) has a love of and extensive experience with complex surgeries, so he does most of the orthopaedic procedures and complicated soft tissue surgeries (eg open chest surgery and liver/gallbladder surgery).Unlike most general practices, several of the vets at Albert Park have many years of experience working in emergency centres and are happy to perform procedures such as bloat surgery and trauma surgery.
