Blackwood Veterinary Surgery
I grew up in Melbourne surrounded by dogs, cats, birds, turtles and the occasional sheep. Many of my holidays as a kid was spent on a diary farm in Northern Victoria so like most of us in this industry I felt a close bond with animals from a young age. After graduating from Veterinary Science in 1990, I moved to Adelaide and have lived in Blackwood since 1991.

I spent many years traveling to the other side of town for work and have worked in some great practices over the years. I have always worked with small animals and I find it very rewarding to have a great relationship with people and their much loved pets. I am very fortunate to now and work at Blackwood Vets with Mary Ann.

Heartworm
Report
There are two broad categories of worms that may affect our pet dogs and cats, heartworm and intestinal worms. Heartworm, or Dirofilaria immitis, is a parasite that is spread by mosquitoes, so you pet does not even need to be in contact with other pets to become infected! Heartworm has a complicated life cycle.
Intestinal Worms
Report
There are two broad categories of worms that may affect our pet dogs and cats, intestinal worms and heartworm. Please see our heartworm page for more information. Worming is one of the first health care issues pet owners need to address as pups and kittens are the most susceptible. As their name suggests, intestinal worms are parasites that live inside your pet's intestines.
Dog Vaccination
Report
Vaccination has revolutionised control of infectious disease in our pets. It is essential that all pets are adequately vaccinated to help protect the pet population as a whole. Responsible pet care requires puppies to be given their initial course of vaccinations, but this cannot protect them for the rest of their lives.
Dentistry
Report
Dentistry is a rapidly growing area of veterinary science. We have seen a greater awareness over the last 25 years of its importance to the overall health of the animals we treat. Just like humans, pets' teeth need looking after too! The health of their teeth and gum's has a significant impact on their overall quality of life.
Radiography
Report
Our hospital is fully equipped to take radiographs (often called X-rays) of your pet. Our veterinarians will discuss your pet's case and conduct a thorough physical examination to determine if your pet requires radiographs. Radiographs are a very important tool to help us diagnose diseases in animals, particularly for conditions involving bones, the chest or abdomen.
