Shakil is a fully certified subspecialist in maternal fetal medicine. He has been working in the fetal medicine unit at Liverpool Hospital since 2011. He is able to do any pregnancy related ultrasound which includes but is not limited to Pregnancy Dating, First Trimester Morphology and Anuploidy Screening, Morphology ultrasound at 18-20 weeks, Fetal Echocardiography, Growth ultrasound and Ultrasound to assess the placenta and cervix.

Shakil is qualified as both an obstetrician and gynaecologist from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Until 2010 he practiced both obstetrics and gynaecology. From 2011 onwards he has been only looking after women in pregnancy as part of his interest in maternal-fetal medicine and high risk pregnancy.
