Established in 1883, the Fitzroy Football Club became a foundation team in the Victorian Football League in 1897. The first to win a VFL grand final, Fitzroy is the only club to have played in the VFA, VFL, AFL and VAFA. Throughout its long and rich history, Fitzroy has won premierships in the VFA, the VFL and the VAFA, and holds a unique place in the hearts of Fitzroy and opposition supporters, the local community, and the VAFA competition it now plays in.

We are a strong, vibrant community club with a proud history that we are passionate about preserving and strengthening as we pursue success on and off the field. To continue to strive for success and deliver the best football club experience to our community, the club has an Operations Fund where donations will be used to support the day-to-day running of the Club.

The Fitzroy Reds Football Club (formerly the University Reds Football Club) has a long and distinguished history. Throughout its 48 years the club has prided itself of being a club run by the players for the players. We have always maintained a strong social calendar and an eclectic mix of players that has given us a reputation for eccentricity.

A year after changing the color of the FFC logo of their jumper from blue to white Fitzroy discarded the Gorilla mascot, which had become the subject of some ridicule from opposition supporters and adopted the now familiar Lion mascot to reflect "the never say die spirit of the club" and also to provide a more aggressive and noble image.
