If you are inside of Australia, you must hold a substantive visa, a subclass 010 (Bridging A) visa, a subclass 020 (Bridging B) visa or a Subclass 030 (Bridging C) visa.
Partner Visas

You must be married to or in a de facto relationship with an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen. You must be in Australia (onshore) when you apply for the visa and when the visa is granted. Subclass 820 visa allows you to remain in Australia on temporary basis (usually with a waiting period of two years from the date you applied for the visa).
