Carpet Call is the largest 100% Australian owned flooring retailer in the country. Starting from humble beginnings in 1975, with a total capital outlay of $270 and a carpet rack that was found partly submerged in the Brisbane River, Smith, a young father at the time, opened his first one man store at Alderley, on the Northside of Brisbane.
The shop was so small that the carpet had to be rolled out into the street to be cut for his customers. Believing in the core values of customer service 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, Smith quickly expanded opening more stores throughout Brisbane. Carpet Call became a house hold name in the 80's becoming synonymous with the "call call carpet call" jingle.
