Eltham Bowling Club was founded in the late 1970s and established in 1981. In the mid-1970's an Eltham Council Sports and Recreation Advisory Committee found that there was a need for a bowling club in central Eltham and government money was sought. At the time state government funds for sporting purposes were scarce although there were ample funds available for recreation purposes.
Hence the recreation path was pursued and the name of Eltham Recreation Bowling Club resulted. For the first 21 years the club operated from an old farmhouse which was later extended by club members. The photo to the right shows the extended building. The original farmhouse is the tiled roof section on the left; the iron roofed section from the chimney onwards is the added extension.

Eltham Bowling Club, like all other bowling clubs, simply can not survive without the assistance of volunteers. These volunteers assist in many aspects of the club, from organizing events, organizing catering, looking after the bar, caring for our facilities and many, many other important positions.

There will be a restricted number of rinks available on Wednesdays and Saturdays between 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. due to organised Social Bowls. Use of the Services Victoria app is is preferred. As an alternative, there is a log book located on a table near the entrance to the club house which you can use to record both your arrival and departure time.

Bowls is a game for all ages. It has one of the highest participation rates for any sport in Australia and can be played year round by men and women of all ages. It is both interesting and challenging as well as enjoyable at a social or competitive level depending upon your interest. Before making a financial commitment to join the club we provide you with free coaching from one of our accredited coaches.

All of the Coaches at Eltham Bowling Club are fully accredited and hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC). They are members of the Club themselves, taking part in Pennant & Social Games with the majority of them playing in the highest competition divisions of the club. Several of our Coaches are also qualified umpires, with a few having umpired at big named events, such as at the Bowls Australian Open, in the past.
