The Audiology Place is an independent audiology clinic providing comprehensive hearing, tinnitus and ear care across Sydneys Northern Beaches and Northern Sydney, with clinics in Forestville and Epping.
Founded by Dr Signe Steers, The Audiology Place was created around a simple idea: hearing care should be clinically rigorous, genuinely independent and centred on the individual rather than a particular hearing aid brand or retail model.
The clinic provides diagnostic hearing assessments for adults and children, hearing aid fitting and rehabilitation, tinnitus assessment and treatment, earwax removal through microsuction, auditory processing assessments, occupational hearing services and support for eligible pensioners and veterans through the Australian Government Hearing Services Program.
As an independent clinic, The Audiology Place is not owned by a hearing aid manufacturer or large retail chain. This means its audiologists can recommend technology from across the major hearing aid manufacturers, selecting devices according to the patients hearing loss, lifestyle, listening environments, preferences and budget.
Hearing aid fittings are supported by evidence-based verification techniques including Real Ear Measurement, which allows an audiologist to measure how a hearing aid is actually performing inside an individual patients ear. Rather than relying simply on manufacturer software or standard fitting formulas, this process helps ensure amplification is appropriately matched to the patients hearing prescription.
Paediatric audiology is another important part of the clinics work. The Audiology Place assesses children from infancy through adolescence using age-appropriate techniques including Visual Reinforcement Audiometry, play audiometry, tympanometry and otoacoustic emissions. The clinic also provides assessment for auditory processing difficulties where appropriate.
For people experiencing tinnitus, The Audiology Place provides detailed assessment to understand both hearing function and the individual impact of tinnitus. Management may include hearing rehabilitation, counselling and tinnitus-specific treatment options. The clinic also provides Lenire, a bimodal neuromodulation treatment designed for suitable people with persistent tinnitus, following appropriate clinical assessment.
The Audiology Place also provides microsuction earwax removal. Unlike traditional ear syringing, microsuction removes wax under direct visualisation without introducing water into the ear canal. Appointments generally take around 15 to 30 minutes and can often treat both ears during the same visit.
The clinics team includes experienced audiologists working across adult and paediatric audiology, hearing technology, tinnitus and complex diagnostic assessment. For each adult hearing assessment, we allow up to 90 minutes, to ensure we have time to perform a comprehensive case history and examination of the ear. We will also check the status of the middle ear, speech discrimination abilities in both quiet and noise, and a diagnostic evaluation of the hearing ability. If required, we will continue on to discussing hearing solution options. The Audiology Place is a completely independent and local practice that does not have ties to any specific hearing aid manufacturer/brand. This ensures that any advise and option given, is patient-centred and individual to the specific persons best interests. Results Once the hearing test is complete, your audiologist will present you with a thorough explanation of your test results, with plenty time for you to ask questions and gain a full understanding of your hearing loss and how it relates to the problems you are experiencing. Icrosuction is one of the safest and most comfortable for the patient. It is performed using a special microscope and a low-pressure medical suction device to suck any wax out of the ear canals very gently. It is a safe procedure as, instead of putting water into the ears to flush out the wax, nothing is put into the ear in microsuction; it is only sucked out.

We provide independent hearing aid support for pensioners, fitting devices from all major manufacturers according to individual hearing needs, lifestyle and budget. Our audiologists conduct thorough assessments and use real-ear measurement to ensure each device is appropriately tuned.
