The Music Playground
Founded in 2010, The Music Playground is an Arts organisation located in Melbourne's Western Suburbs. The Music Playground uses music to connect people of all ages, with interactive group learning sessions, music experiences and regular performance opportunities for its musicians. We run sessions for carers and children to make music together.

Children have the option of learning a musical instrument with our teachers from age 3. Our organisation continues to offer group music sessions for older children, where they participate in marimba band, performance practice, music theory and singing skills.

Class Overview
Report
Our curriculum is based on Early Childhood music research and led by qualified, experienced teachers with additional accreditation in Suzuki, Kodaly and Orff methods the three most reknowned ways to teach music to young children. Mixed age classes use play based learning to stimulate imagination and grow musical intelligence through live singing, real instruments, dancing, puppets, rhymes and stories.
Baby Steps 0-12 months
Report
For thousands of years, parents have bonded with their babies through music, movement and rhythm games played on a parent's lap. During an infant's early development, the parent is their whole world, and a baby's early development is strengthened and enhanced by this parental bond. Our carefully selected curriculum teaches parents and babies these lap games that have stood the test of time.
Small Steps 1-4 Years
Report
Suzuki music education is based on the assumption that any child can become highly musical with the right environment, education and effort. The best time to start is as young as possible. During the first three years of life, a child's brain is at it's most receptive to sound. This helps them acquire language.
Playtime 3-6 years
Report
In our playtime classes, children participate in singing, movement and dance activities, playing instruments with others in a class ensemble. There are opportunities for solo and group performance and we also learn music theory including reading notation and learning musical terms and signs.

This class is designed to facilitate a smooth transition from the Small Steps class to learning any instrument, as well as extending and supporting the beginner instrumentalist by providing a social outlet for their musical endeavours. It is common for children learning the Suzuki method to begin learning an instrument around three.
Music Club school age
Report
Our Music Club is designed for school-aged children who learn an instrument at The Music Playground. They are designed as a natural extension of instrument lessons. Music Club is based on the Suzuki Philosophy "Children learn from one another" and aim to give children motivation and reason for learning and loving their instrument.
