My interest in upper limb surgery started during the first years of my orthopaedic training in Melbourne. After being awarded my FRACS in Orthopaedic Surgery, I was fortunate to be selected for three prestigious post-graduate Fellowships in upper limb surgery. This has helped me to further develop my skill and knowledge in conditions affecting the shoulder, elbow and wrist.

I have also taken the opportunity to involve myself with a number of research projects that have now been presented both nationally and internationally. I am currently involved in the Alfred Trauma Fellowship Program. My family and I have now travelled both sides of the Atlantic. I have been very fortunate to learn, operate and ultimately teach at high volume centres; with world renowned surgeons in the area of shoulder, elbow and wrist.

Yes, tears of the rotator cuff tendons are extremely common. Recent studies report that approximately 30% of over 60 year olds and 60% of people over the age of 70 will have a tear. As such, after the age of 60, rotator cuff tears may be considered a natural part of ageing. It is also important to note the majority of shoulders with a torn rotator cuff will not be painful.

Recovery After Shoulder Operation
Report
Every operation has a healing process that is similar to the way in which the body responds to injuries. As such, the corner stone of this period is analgesia, rest, ice, and gentle movement. Pain can be modified through a number of pathways, and medications are tailored accordingly. Oxycontin 10mg twice per day by mouth - this is the most powerful orally taken pain killer.
