These are the real thing from where the art of rug making began. Forget the borders of countries for now. Thousands of years ago most of the region where the 'best of the best' rugs come from, was largely called Persia. Now those artisan who weave rugs can come from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kurdistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey and to some degree, India, Morrocco, Nepal and whilst not middle eastern, also China.
Be aware that light has colour, so looking at your rug in different lights will make the colours look different ie: daylight, fluorescent light, incandescent light. If you are not 100% sure, look at the rug in the room during the day and at night. Different yarns reflect or absorb light differently.

Choosing the right size rug. In most cases people generally feel they can "get away with" a smaller size, and often because it costs a little less. In most cases however, that's not the best idea. If you choose a rug that is too small under a dining table, the chair legs will catch the rug. Too small in a lounge or family area and the room will feel smaller and more cluttered.
