Underground Audio is a Brisbane recording studio owned and operated by engineer Chris Brownbill. Established in 2014, this state of the art analog and digital recording facility has become the sonic benchmark in Brisbane. Based in Nundah on the northside, our services include engineering, mixing, production and voice over work.

We love making records. We are remarkably specific with our equipment selection and room utilisation, but it must be stated that there is no right or wrong way to make a recording. It really depends on the style of music and the way the band wants to work. We can accommodate just about any size recording.

We have a large selection of equipment that is available to all bands and outside engineers. We place a huge emphasis on the 'front end'. Meaning, great sources and great transducers (the microphones). Our gear list is constantly evolving and rotating but we have all our staples listed below. Please email regarding drums as these are in greater rotation than our other gear.

We are hoping this serves as a utility for aspiring engineers, or even as a handbook for those interested in the world of audio. Dereck is a fantastic engineer and musician based in Boston, MA. He is also a composer, DIY audio enthusiast and a secretary at AES (audio engineering society). He runs a recording facility in his home called Quiethouse Recording.

If you're new to doing bands and making music it may seem that studios and home setups are analogous, but stick around long enough and you will realise the difference in a proper session in an acoustically treated space with high quality microphones, consoles and tape machines. The sessions that we run are so rewarding to both our clients and us because its often that they have been struggling in less than ideal recording situations for years.

We are located at 22 Hamson Terrace in the back streets of leafy Nundah, a short walk from a tonne of cafes and a supermarket. We require a 25% deposit for your session and clients are expected to pay in full upon your session at the studio.
