Fractured & Broken Shoulders
Report
Fractured shoulders are unique. Because of the complexity of the joint being surrounded by muscles/ tendons, in the past they have had an uncertain prognosis, with the general consensus being that these fractures never recovered that well. This has changed since the release of the reverse shoulder replacement as an option for treating fractured shoulders.
Frozen Shoulder Adhesive Capsulitis
Report
Frozen shoulder is a condition of unknown cause which leads to pain and stiffness in the shoulder. It is generally self-limiting and in time predominantly resolves. The condition is the development of an inflamed articular capsule, with associated pain and stiffness. Whilst the cause is unknown, it is more common in diabetic patients and those who have suffered a heart attack or had breast cancer treatment.
Shoulder Dislocations
Report
Unstable shoulders are common events brought to the limelight by sporting injuries, particularly Australian Rules Football. Instability of the shoulder is where the shoulder (humeral head or ball of shoulder) dislocates out of the joint (glenoid cavity or socket). The shoulder is made up of the glenoid, which is a socket in which the ball of the shoulder sits.
