Neil Pitt (b1931) opened Neil Pitt's Menswear at 123 Charles St in Launceston in 1949. His brother Donald joined him soon afterwards and they were later joined by their younger brother Brian. The shop grew steadily in Charles Street to the point where they outgrew the store. Around the same time television had arrived and patronage at movie theatres around the city were in decline.

In the 1960's department stores all had coffee shops in store, and today this tradition continues at Neil Pitt's Menswear. The Neil Pitt's cafe is one of the last traditional department store coffee shops in Tasmania and possibly Australia.
Serving up healthy, wholesome food, great coffee and tea, morning teas, light lunches, daily specials, cakes and desserts, milkshakes, spiders, and we've been told our Devonshire tea is the best in Tasmania with fresh baked scones daily.

Our staff have extensive retail and menswear fashion experience and will welcome you with a smile. Don joined his brother Neil in the shop soon after it was opened in 1949, at 123 Charles St. Don has had a long career as a respected businessman across a number of industries, but his main passion is menswear and the shop and what he enjoys most is serving customers.
