Fibroid
Report
Fibroids are very common. Approximately 4 in 5 women have had fibroids in their lifetime, although not all of these women have symptoms or even know about the presence of fibroids. Fibroids are not cancer and are not thought to be able to change to cancer. In fact, cancer of the uterine muscle wall (leiomyosarcoma) is a rare disease - it happens in only around 0.1 - 0.3% of uterine growth.
Heavy Periods
Report
If you have menstrual bleeding so heavy that you dread your period, especially when your period have causes enough blood loss and cramping that you have to restrict your daily activities, talk to your GP or gynaecologist. There are many effective treatments for menorrhagia. Not ovulating regularly once per month - This causes your menstrual period to be irregular or absent, and once the period returns it causes heavy bleeding.
Abnormal Bleeding
Report
Abnormal bleeding means irregular bleeding between normal menstrual periods, or bleeding after menopause. If you notice abnormal bleeding, it is important to talk to your GP or gynaecologist. A simple female pelvic exam and an up-to-date pap smear can help to look for any possible source of bleeding from the vulva, vagina and cervix.
Pelvis Masses
Report
The most common masses in the pelvis are fibroids from the uterus and cysts from the ovaries. These masses can cause pressure on adjacent structures such as bladder and bowel. Women may experience dragging sensation in the lower abdomen or urinary frequency. An ovarian cyst would cause acute severe pain if complications like bleeding, torsion and rupture occur.
Pelvic Pain
Report
There are many structures inside the pelvis. Apart from the reproductive organs (uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries), the pelvic cavity also contains bowel, bladder, urinary tract and nerves. Pain can arise from any of these structures. If you have chronic pelvic pain, it is important to discuss it with empathetic health professionals who can understand your problems and their disturbances to your life.
