Dr Nathanael Ong was born in Singapore, moving to Perth in 1999. He completed his undergraduate studies in biomedical science at the University of Notre Dame. Following a brief stint researching with the Institute for Respiratory Health at Royal Perth Hospital, he completed his dental studies at the University of Western Australia.
