My interest in orthopaedic surgery came from a fascination with how the musculoskeletal system works. Over two decades I've studied lower limb biomechanics and the effects of injury, degeneration and deformity. There are great treatment options for people suffering from lower limb problems and these can be matched to the individual patient.

Some of these options involve surgery and some are non-operative. In my career I've been lucky enough to work with teams of very talented and dedicated people in the field of orthopaedic surgery. With the help of my colleagues and co-workers I strive to get the best outcome for my patients. We want to get people back doing what they love, whether that's surfing, hiking, gardening or running around with the children and grandchildren.

Common Hip Issues
Report
In young people it may relate to developmental issues such as the way the hip takes shape as it grows (developmental dysplasia) or other processes such as Perthe's disease or damage to the growing part of the bone (slipped epiphysis). It is also a common issue as we get older. It is frequently due to arthritis and degeneration in the joint or tearing of the gluteal or hamstring tendons attaching to the bones around the joint.
Hip Surgery
Report
Hip replacement is a common operation in Australia and other developed countries around the world. It was pioneered by Sir John Charnley in England in the 1960s and can be hugely beneficial to people suffering with hip arthritis. Hip replacement involves making an approach through the muscles and soft tissues around the hip and removing the head of the femur (thigh bone) and the surface of the socket of the hip joint.
Knee Surgery
Report
Knee surgery is all about trying to help the injured knee heal. The joint and its surrounding structures are very complex. The key to success is repairing the damaged structures to be as close as possible to their original state. The closer we can get to normal anatomy the better the knee will function in the long term.

Before Surgery
Report
So you've booking in for surgery. Often a lot of information and even more paperwork is given to you when you book your surgery date and it's easy to get overwhelmed by this. If you're feeling unsure about what you need to do our secretaries are happy to guide you through things on the phone or for you to come back into the clinic during business hours to go over things in person.
