Adoption Research and Counselling Service Inc (arcs) is an independent, not-for-profit community agency offering professional counselling, support, education, research and information to anyone living with the reality of adoption and/or being separated from family. Since 1984, arcs has been there for those affected by adoption and loss of relationship with family.

We provide specialist services that are responsive to the complex issues faced by all of those dealing with the loss and pain of separation from family, and the challenges of reconnection. As a specialist agency in the field of adoption, arcs is unique in that we work with all parties to adoption. Our experience tells us that adoption is a life long experience.

Dr. Winkler's research recognised adoption as a life long experience with unique and ongoing challenges for all parties to the adoption - birth parents, adopted people and adoptive parents. Dr Winkler's vision for arcs was to provide safe and specialist services whilst recognising and respecting all affected by adoption.

As both a client and a management committee member, Beverley has a long association with arcs. Her work history with a series of not-for-profit organisations has given Beverley an understanding of the challenges and opportunities that face organisations such as arcs.

Beverley is interested in working to ensure that the special expertise, knowledge and skill of arcs is able to continue to help heal those faced with the trauma of separation and loss within families.Moira is a marketing, communications and fundraising specialist with over 15 years' experience in commercial and not-for-profit organisations.
Specialist adoption counselling

Our knowledge and experience informs our therapeutic counselling program. Sometimes when we experience profound change, it is reassuring to find a team who has the experience to offer expertise and knowledge in the adoption field. Since 1983 our service has been there for all those whose lives have been touched by an adoption experience.
Adopted child
Report
Our work is integrative and experiential. The children we see often have sensory processing issues and their trauma memories are implicit and somatic. Research has established that early trauma effects brain development, emotional regulation, ability to form secure relationship and academic performance.
