Bluegum2 Music Teaching Resources
Bluegum2 Music was established in 1997 to provide band and instrumental music predominantly in primary schools. Following over 30 years of performance and musical direction, Frank Rugers developed a teaching philosophy to provide students with the opportunity to experience music through performance and develop broader musical skills.

Over the years Frank has trained most of his staff not in their skill as musicians but as teachers. There is a huge disparity between the performer and teacher which is not dealt with at the undergraduate level.

Why and When to learn
Report
This is a summary of research into the positive effects on academic, mental functioning and social skills resulting from a music education. The summary was assembled by the Australian Music Association and the following text is published in an attractive brochure under its Music Makers program.

For many years, we have believed that children should learn music 'for music's sake', because music was an excellent accomplishment and part of a well rounded, balanced education. And so it is. But these days children are expected to learn so many more skills and parents have begun to ask which subjects their child could ignore or drop.
