About Us
Report
Masons Eyecare has been your local Kempsey Optometrist for over 80 years and we are very proud to be a part of the Macleay Valley. The practice was originally opened by Doug Mason prior to 1942 in Smith Street, Kempsey. His wife Dulcie also joined him as an optometrist and they ran the business together for many years whilst raising a family.
Our Team
Report
Ben has lived in the Macleay Valley since 1999, originally a Dubbo boy he has worked around the country before deciding on the Macleay as his home. Bens focus is to provide his patients with the very best care they will receive anywhere and it is with this in mind that he is continually upgrading his qualifications including completing his Therapeutics course which means he can now prescribe prescription drugs for some eye conditions.
Myopia
Report
Myopia, commonly called shortsightedness, is a condition in which light is focused in front of the retina, resulting in blurred vision. Shortsighted people can often see reasonably clear at short distances, but will not be able to see distant objects clearly. There is currently no cure for myopia, but spectacles, contact lenses and refractive surgery can all provide good distance vision for people with myopia.
Astigmatism
Report
Imagine having an eyeball the shape of a rugby ball rather than a soccer ball. As the light passes into the eye, the light rays are bent to differing degrees resulting in a distorted image presented at the retina. In some directions the image will be more out of focus than others. Even slight degrees of astigmatism may cause headaches, fatigue and reduce concentration.
Presbyopia
Report
Presbyopia is the gradual reduction in the amount that the eye can change its focus. The changes are the result of the continued growth of the lens inside the eye, resulting in a lack of flexibility in the lens when readjusting to focus at different distances. It is a normal part of ageing. Presbyopia usually becomes noticeable between the ages of 40 and 50 as an inability to focus near objects.
