Tattoo ink pigment particles are deliberately larger than the body's immune system can remove. This means they sit/stay permanently in the dermis layer of the skin. Laser light allows us to use specific wavelengths of pulsed light energy which is absorbed by the ink particles but not the surrounding skin tissue.
