The stability and retention of the denture depends on many factors, including the attachment and fit of the denture to natural teeth, implants if any, the amount and type of bone, gum tissue, and saliva, as well as the ability in placing and removing the denture. Every attempt is made to create a natural appearance for the denture; however, it may not be possible for the denture to support the lip and facial contours perfectly.
Following the first appointment for a crown or bridge procedure, a temporary crown is placed on the tooth or teeth involved. This will protect them while the custom restoration is being made. Temporary cement is used so that the temporary crown can be easily removed at your next appointment.
If your temporary crown comes off between appointments, clean the inside and slip the temporary crown back on and call us for an appointment to recement the crown as soon as possible.A little Vaseline or toothpaste placed inside the temporary crown will help hold it in place until it is cemented. Avoid chewing gum, sticky foods and candy while the temporary crown is in place.

After Extraction Care

Continue biting on gauze when leaving the clinic; please dispose of thoughtfully after 30 minutes. Do not suck on socket or through a straw, put fingers in mouth, rinse mouth vigorously or spit for rest of the day. Vigorous activity (heavy lifting, exercising/sport) should be avoided for the rest of the day.
Post-Op Fillings

The numbing in the upper jaw will last approximately 2 hours, and the numbing in the lower jaw will last up to 4 hours. Eat soft foods until the numbing wears off. Avoid hot drinks or foods until the numbing is gone. Sensitivity, especially to cold, is common following a filling. The sensitivity may last several days to several months depending on how deep the filling is.

Brush gently today even if your gums are tender to help remove the plaque that has started to reform. Start flossing, once a day, the day after your treatment. You may also start rinsing with Listerine mouth rinse 2 x a day, the day after treatment to help reduce the plaque build-up on your teeth. Sensitivity to hot and cold is very common after periodontal treatment.
