Forefoot Pain
Report
The medical term for a bunion is hallux abducto valgus (hallux = big toe). Often hereditary, they can lead to pain and stiffness in the big toe joint. There may also be redness and swelling around the joint and/or bony prominences at the top of the joint. Evaluation of work, leisure activities and training programs that may exacerbate the condition.
Midfoot Pain
Report
Osteoarthritis in the foot can be very painful and disabling. It's often neglected when it comes to clinical trials and medical funding. However, recent studies show medial mid-foot OA (affecting the big toe side of your foot) to be far more common than previously thought, with prevalence in the older population at 88% and 7.8% in the younger community.
Heel Pain
Report
Often lumped under the term 'plantar fasciitis' or 'heel spur', plantar heel pain is very common and can be very disabling, especially those first few steps in the morning or when getting up from sitting. There are a number of differential diagnoses that need to be considered, for example calcaneal stress fracture, fat pad pathology, nerve irritation, abductor hallucis tendinopathy or plantar fascia pathology.
Ankle Pain
Report
With peroneal tendinopathy, you may experience pain around the lateral malleolus (outer ankle bone) and/or along the outside border of the foot. This pain usually increases with activity and reduces with rest, and can occur when turning the foot in or out. Ankle instability and swelling may also be present.
Leg Pain
Report
This is a common injury, affecting the anterior (front) compartment of the lower leg- the shin. Anyone can be affected, but it is more common in people who engage in running, sports or increased activities. Whilst colloquially referred to as shin splints, the more accurate term is MTSS- medial tibial stress syndrome.
