Tenambit medical centre was established in the Tenambit shopping centre in 1971 by Dr Gruda with Dr O'Young purchasing the practice in 1981.
The practice then changed hands again with Dr Lex Doornbos purchasing in 1984 and moving the premises to 57 Maize Street. The Practice relocated to the present site in 1989 with the expansion of the premises in 1995.

Dr Renee Bilkey grew up on the central coast of NSW and graduated from the University of NSW with a medical degree at the end of 1999. Dr Bilkey has worked at the John Hunter, Mater, Maitland and Belmont Hospitals and in GP clinics at Muswellbrook NSW and Biloela QLD. Dr Bilkey joined the team at Tenambit Medical Centre in 2009 and became practice principal in 2010.
