About Carnarvon
Report
The sunny seaside town of Carnarvon is located in the northern part of Australia's Coral Coast. From the North, take the North West Coastal Highway South to Carnarvon and when you get to Robinson Street. We are at our busiest during winter months and shoulder seasons. There is so much to do all year round though.
Discover the wonders of the inland and head east to the Kennedy Ranges, Mt Augustus or Gascoyne Junction. Go coastal and marvel at the rugged scenery of the north. Make your way up towards the popular surf and fishing destinations such as Red Bluff and Gnaraloo. Head as far south as Shark Bay and then 4WD up to Steep Point, the most western point in the country.
Dolphins & Dugongs
Report
The shallow waters of Carnarvon and Shark Bay are home to about 10% of the world's population of dugongs. You will be engaged by the shy nature of these intriguing creatures. Less than half a day's drive south of Carnarvon you will find Monkey Mia and Shark Bay. Since the early 1960's the wild dolphins have been visiting the shores of Monkey Mia.
Fishing
Report
Talking to Carnarvon locals you will soon find out that quite a few people have actually chosen to live in Carnarvon because of its top quality fishing. Head south of town and the fishing and crabbing spots include Oyster Creek, Uendoo Creek, New Beach, Bush Bay, and Gladstone. To the north, there is spectacular fishing on offer at Miaboolya Beach, the Blowholes and Quobba Coastline including Gnaraloo and Red Bluff.
