Welcome to Brisbane Northside Emergency (BNE), a 24 hour, 7 day a week, fee-for-service emergency department based in Chermside, Brisbane. We are located adjacent to The Prince Charles Hospital and St Vincent's Private Hospital Northside (previously known as Holy Spirit Northside Private Hospital).
BNE has a full suite of facilities including radiology, and can quickly engage specialists for emergency surgery. Our professional team of doctors and nurses are highly-experienced in emergency medical care. My name is Dr Phillip Kay and I am an Emergency Medicine Specialist. As Director and founder of Brisbane Northside Emergency, I have proudly led my team of qualified professionals since 2001. At BNE, our primary focus is to provide you with a great alternative to being seen in a busy public emergency department.

Our team are highly-skilled specialists in emergency medical care. Their combined qualifications and experience provide the degree of capability which enables BNE to provide the highest quality patient care. Dr Phillip Kay was the first Specialist in Emergency Medicine to enter the private sector in 1987 at Pindara on the Gold Coast.
At BNE, we have a most diverse nursing team with expertise in a wide variety of disciplines. Our team are fully-qualified in emergency care, stroke management, orthopaedics, haematology, midwifery and paediatrics, and include lecturers in nursing and paramedicine, research gurus, and wound care specialists.

Doris, a 70-year-old retired woman, presented with acute back pain on her left side. While there was no obvious reason, the pain had progressively worsened over the last 24 hours. There were no other symptoms or significant medical history that would point to a pre-existing cause.
