Patterson River Veterinary Centre strives to give your pet the very best health care possible. Our staff are all dedicated pet lovers and we pride ourselves in our personal care of both clients and patients alike. Practice owners Greg and Kerrie Rodgers have been caring for pets in the Carrum and Patterson Lakes area since 1991.
We feel continuity of care by the one Vet is important and where practical we aim to do this. This provides you with a more personal type of service, something that you do not always receive elsewhere. We are able to offer you both a preventative health care program for your pet and a treatment program when the need arises.

Services
Services
Report
Patterson River Veterinary Centre is able to offer a comprehensive health care service for your pet. Did you know that the most important time for social development is the first four months of your pups life? Socialisation is often not easy to do safely when your pup is not fully covered with vaccinations.
Desexing
Report
Desexing ensures that your pet has less reproductive related health problems as he or she ages. Dogs that are desexed after their first heat are five times more likely to develop mammary cancer as they get older compared to those that are desexed before their first heat. Female dogs will generally come on heat twice yearly from the age of six months.
Microchipping
Report
Local councils now require that all newly registered pets be microchipped at 3 months of age. It can conveniently be done in a routine consultation. A large needle is used to insert the microchip under the skin between the shoulder blades. The microchip is the size of a grain of rice. Only registered implanters are able to insert a microchip and here at Patterson River all of our vets are registered to perform this procedure.
Vaccinations
Report
Our recommendation is for your dog or cat to have annual vaccinations and these are essential if your pet will be staying in a boarding kennel at any stage. This year, Vets around Melbourne have being seeing an increasing number of dogs and puppies affected by Parvovirus and this disease is often fatal.
Parasite Control
Report
We regularly see many fleas on our patients. If your pet is not on a regular flea control program then now is a good time to start. Fleas like to congregate in front of the tail area and along the back so have a look in this area and if you see small black bits that look like dirt then it may well be flea dirt.
